Come serve our families on Tuesday nights by helping with childcare during our adult English class for Hispanic adults! Make sure to sign up on our volunteer platform HERE if you are coming!

Assist Davidson county residents in responding to the recent winter ice storm. We are working with multiple local organizations to respond. Projects range in scope from distributing food, to canvassing, to debris removal. To see a full list of partner projects, visit our winter projects listing page here.

You will need to make a Hands On account to join any of these projects. You will not sign up for these projects via the GetConnected platform but you can log your hours after serving here on Get Connected.

The Nature Discovery Program is a partnership between Friends of Warner Parks, the Warner Park Nature Center, and Metro Parks Community Centers to reach youth who lack direct access to, and are often underrepresented in, traditional environmental education and outdoor recreation programs. The Nature Discovery Program is activated in a number of ways including:

Nature Detectives Club: an after-school program for youth at Metro Nashville Community Centers. This program provides science-based teachings and empowers kids to explore nature. This program takes place at more than 20 Community Centers throughout Davidson County. 

P.E.N. Pals (People Exploring Nature) Summer Camp: brings youth from Metro Parks Community Centers to the Warner Parks for a full day of nature exploration and outdoor adventure! Youth follow their curiosity as they explore the meadow, pond, and garden ecosystems, hike through the forest, observe wildlife, kayak, learn outdoor skills, search for crawdads in the Little Harpeth River, and create lasting memories in nature. 

P.E.N. Pals (People Exploring Nature) Fall Campfire & Night Hikes: Community Center youth experience the Warner Parks during the fall season. Earlier sunsets and cooler temperatures mean it's time to roast hot dogs, make s'mores, and enjoy time around the bonfire. Youth take a crepuscular hike through the meadows and forests of the Warner Parks and view the night sky while learning about nocturnal creatures. 

*We are looking for college-aged volunteers to participate in any of these branches of the Nature Discovery program, as the youth often find it easier to connect with this age group. This opportunity is wonderful for those who are interested in education, biology, sustainability, or environmental studies.*

Volunteers needed in our JJM programs of Nashville YFC to help with weekly or bi-weekly character development classes with boys and girls detention center.  Currently the class is on Tuesdays from 2:50pm-4:05pm for girls facility and 3:50pm-5:10pm for the boys facility.  Same address for both pods of facility. There is also another girls facility option from 4:15-5:15pm on Tuesdays as well.

accentCare Hospice Volunteers make a profound impact in the lives of our hospice patients and their loved ones. As a Bereavement Caller, you can serve patients and families on hospice care. Volunteers make a weekly calls to check in on low risk bereaved family members to make sure that they are feeling supported.

After volunteers go through orientation and shadowing, calls can be made from their homes or in our Franklin office after orientation period.

No previous hospice experience is needed, accentCare Hospice will provide training and support throughout your time as a volunteer.

Nashville Opera often asks Professor Gwendolyn Brown for ushers. Ushers assist the opera company with audience and donor support at specific events. These events include operas, rehearsals, fundraisers, performances in the community, and other volunteer opportunities. Student volunteers will receive two seats to the opera on the evening of their service. For other services, students will receive the opportunity to enjoy themselves. Some services will require wearing black. This opportunity is open to any Fisk student.

Soles4Souls is currently looking for reliable volunteer drivers to help pick up donated shoes and clothing from our local retail partners and deliver them to our warehouse. These pickups are essential to keeping donations moving quickly into our programs.

Project Description:

As a TN SHIP/SMP (Tennessee State Health Insurance Assistance Program/Senior Medicare Patrol) Volunteer Medicare Counselor you will be assisting individuals who have questions regarding the Medicare program through one-on-one counseling over the phone, in-person, or via email. You will receive extensive training to assist Medicare beneficiaries and will be trained to provide free, non-biased and personalized counseling and referral services to a wide range of health insurance issues.

Project Purpose:

TN SHIP’s goal is to provide free, non-biased, personalized counseling and assistance to Medicare beneficiaries and their families who need the help in navigating their way through the Medicare program. SHIP provides understandable and objective information to Medicare beneficiaries on a wide range of health insurance issues. Volunteers are essential in providing these services.

A fundraiser for the American Cancer Society's annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer initiative that aims to increase research and awareness for Breast Cancer survivors. The Fisk University Rotaract club has started a challenge to raise funds for this initiative on campus as a part of our events throughout the month the raise awareness for Breast Cancer.

$1.50 for 1 hour

$3 for 2 hours

5 hours MAX EACH STUDENT

Game Day Operations 

Volunteers provide companionship and comfort to help support the patient and family. They also help with various non-medical services, such as letter writing, and time for caregivers and family. Volunteers also provide support at time of death and during the bereavement process.

Gameday operations, Ticket taking, ambassadors and Concessions 

Each TNDR client receives a “welcome bag” upon admission, including some basic necessities for their stay. One thing we’d like to include is a personal note from a TNDR supporter. Volunteering for Game Day operations

FiftyForward Fresh Meals on Wheels delivers healthy meals to the doorsteps of older adults on specific routes in the Nashville community. We are looking for friendly, compassionate volunteers to deliver nutritious meals, create a social connection, and provide weekly check-ins with our clients. 
 
Routes are currently available on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and include the following neighborhoods to choose from: 12 South, Donelson, Bellevue, Leah Rose Towers (Green Hills), and Trevecca Towers.

This is a rewarding volunteer opportunity that greatly impacts the health and well-being of older adults experiencing food insecurity. Volunteers also help by creating a community connection that combats loneliness and social isolation. 

Unlock your creative talents and help the participants at FiftyForward Friends Adult Day Services do the same! 

Help Fifty Forward Friends with arts & crafts activities that are planned and led by staff.

No artistic talent is needed, just patience and an appreciation for freedom of expression.  Volunteers will assist one-on-one or in small groups as Friends complete simple projects that bring them joy. Volunteers should be able to complete simple "craft" tasks that include scissoring, tying simple knots, and other fine motor skills. Most importantly, volunteers should be comfortable conversing with older adults and encouraging their creativity.

Our Arts & Crafts volunteer opportunity occurs indoors in an ADA-compliant building with ample seating available + restrooms and filtered water.

Help with set up, break down and game management 

Join the Red Cross volunteer team to help communities during disasters such as: Home Fires, Tornadoes and or Floods.

Every day, people are forced from their home due to fires, storms or other disasters. You will work as part of an assigned team to provide immediate support and assistance to individuals and families who have been impacted by a home fire or other local disaster.

Training is free, but the hope you bring is priceless.

Please note all volunteers must pass a background check for theft and violence.

Blood Donor Ambassador Volunteers Needed.

The American Red Cross is looking for friendly, customer focused individuals to volunteer at blood drives. The primary role of a Blood Donor Ambassador volunteer is to engage with donors by greeting, registering, answering questions, providing information, and supporting them through the recovery process at the refreshment table.

Volunteers must volunteer at one blood drive per month. Blood drive can be anywhere from 4 to 6 hours. Length of volunteer service is 3 months.

Volunteering at ThriftSmart is a hands-on way to make a real impact in our community. Since we are open seven days a week, our great volunteer opportunities can fit most schedules. We welcome both individual volunteers and groups of up to 15 people.

Without volunteers we couldn’t do all the things we’ve been doing in our community. We could not keep expanding in ways we dream of to become even more involved with the residents of Nashville and the surrounding areas without volunteer help.  We get to meet and help new people every day who visit our store.

You will have the opportunity to offer companionship to patients in their home, assisted living, or skilled nursing facility while adhering to current health and safety guidelines. Volunteer activities with patients include: Listening to a patient's stories, reading aloud to them from the spiritual text of their choice, listening to spiritual music, prayer, supporting a patient in their faith practices.

Volunteering with Cul2vate does not require a green thumb!  Working alongside the Cul2vators and staff sharing your personal experiences can provide growth for all. As our volunteer team says, “We receive so many more blessings than we give!” We work to provide a volunteer orientation session for individual volunteers each month of the growing season.

Come and make a dogs day! Metro Nashville Animal Care and Control (MACC) has nearly 100 fantastic dogs available for adoption and they need your help! Our dogs need your help getting them out throughout the day for fun romps in one of our play yards, extended walks, or something even just a friendly lap to cuddle on! We are looking to animate our nine animal characters, Behavior Bear, Do'er Duck, Friendship Frog, Healthy Hippo, Manners Monkey, Respectful Rabbit, Responsible Rabbit, Self-Esteem Elephant and Warm-Hearted Walrus.  Using 2D Vector files, and adobe to bring these characters to life in short animations. We'll start out simple and grow from there! Would love for you to join our journey!

An international collaborative event. 

GNRC is partnering with Trevecca Towers to pair Friendly Visitors with Residents at the Senior Living Highrise. Residents at Trevecca Towers are 62 years and up, some are younger if they have a disability. Many of the residents are quite isolated and would greatly benefit from a connection with a community volunteer. 

Commitment: Spend time regularly with your assigned residents at least once a month. Visits can vary in length based on mutual comfort. Once you have been matched, visits can be coordinated directly between resident and volunteer. 

You can spend time talking, playing games, reading, doing crafts or crossword puzzles depending on mutual interest. Many residents are also interested in help navigating their cell phone. So, if you are well versed and able to help spent some time explaining how to do things, that would be appreciated. Some clients need help with light household tasks.

Next steps: Please express interest in the opportunity and we will reach out to you with more details, to match you with a resident and to schedule an initial visit. After the initial visit you will be able to schedule your visits directly with the residents independently. If you'd like to visit more than one resident, we can arrange for that as well.

Hours for the service events and development events for band participants including Music Fest. 

Make a dogs weekend!  Take a dog on a bow-wow breakout and let them spend time chilling at home, walking on the greenway, or whatever other fun event you can think of!  A bow-wow breakout helps our dogs get a break from the kennel and introduces them to new people, environments, and new experiences...and it helps them get adopted! 

This is the volunteering option for you if you need a small amount of hours! 

Available 12-4pm 7 days a week.  All dogs must return to the shelter by 4pm. 

If you do keep the dog at your residence overnight the maximum number of service hours you can receive will be 8 hours per day.    

No dogs are allowed overnights at any campus housing.  If you live off-campus you MUST provide MACC staff written permission from your landlord that dogs are ok on the premises overnight.

Are you interested in helping Metro Animal Care and Control (MACC) and engaging in your community in an active and hands-on environment?  Are you looking for a short-term volunteer opportunity?  Do you enjoy talking directly to members of your community?  Join the MACC Street Team!  We are looking for a diverse group of team members who can walk, drive, bike, roller skate, hop, etc…to various locations throughout Davidson County to hang flyers and talk with local community members about upcoming shelter events, found animals, rabies/microchip clinics, long-stay shelter dogs, and more!  Help us advocate for MACC shelter animals and help manage community business bulletin boards, local business contacts, and organizations where flyers can be placed.  This is a great way to get a few volunteer hours in and help spread the mission of MACC throughout Davidson County.  Please consider joining us if you like the following; scavenger hunts, walking, driving, or biking to new establishments, talking with local organizations and business owners, love organization, and like to collaborate with a team of dedicated volunteers!  Interested volunteers must complete the MACC Volunteer Application and complete a virtual volunteer orientation.  Volunteers will receive 10 minutes of service credit for each flyer they put up.

Mother To Mother has a consistent need for volunteers to assist in our warehouse. A sampling of volunteer projects includes sorting baby and children's clothes and shoes donations, assembling baby gear, restocking shelves, and more.

Students participated in a voting simulation at Hermitage Elm. They created voting booths, discussed the importance of civic duty, created marketing material and more. 

The Tiger Pantry is designed to aid TSU students who are facing temporary hardships. This service is provided for students who are currently not on the meal plan.

WFSK serves the needs of both Fisk University and the Nashville community at-large. JAZZY 88 is on the front line at Fisk, therefore we receive numerous calls and listener contacts during the course of a day.  We're seeking the following type of person: Energetic, to learn, patient and hardworking.  Able to multi-task (i.e. in where ever needed. 

The GiGi's Playhouse 1:1 Literacy Tutoring Programs uses a methodology with documented success based on research by professionals in the field. The ability to read opens doors for individuals with Down syndrome in the workplace, schools and the community.  Developing reading skills also leads to improvements in speech and language development, auditory perceptual skills and working memory function.  Our goal is to foster a love for reading and provide an opportunity to develop and master skills, all while building a positive relationship with our volunteer tutors.

You can choose when, where, and who you want to serve — after confirming your registration we email you everything you need to know prior to your volunteer service. 

Our volunteer coordinators are kind and responsive and can verify volunteers' hours easily through our online portal.

All projects have an opportunity coordinator listed to answer any questions you may have leading up to the project. We recommend reaching out directly to them about this project, as they will have better insight into project requirements than Hands On Nashville might.
