The Nature Discovery Program is a partnership between Friends of Warner Parks, the Warner Park Nature Center, and Metro Parks Community Centers to reach youth who lack direct access to, and are often underrepresented in, traditional environmental education and outdoor recreation programs. The Nature Discovery Program is activated in a number of ways including:

Nature Detectives Club: an after-school program for youth at Metro Nashville Community Centers. This program provides science-based teachings and empowers kids to explore nature. This program takes place at more than 20 Community Centers throughout Davidson County. 

P.E.N. Pals (People Exploring Nature) Summer Camp: brings youth from Metro Parks Community Centers to the Warner Parks for a full day of nature exploration and outdoor adventure! Youth follow their curiosity as they explore the meadow, pond, and garden ecosystems, hike through the forest, observe wildlife, kayak, learn outdoor skills, search for crawdads in the Little Harpeth River, and create lasting memories in nature. 

P.E.N. Pals (People Exploring Nature) Fall Campfire & Night Hikes: Community Center youth experience the Warner Parks during the fall season. Earlier sunsets and cooler temperatures mean it's time to roast hot dogs, make s'mores, and enjoy time around the bonfire. Youth take a crepuscular hike through the meadows and forests of the Warner Parks and view the night sky while learning about nocturnal creatures. 

*We are looking for college-aged volunteers to participate in any of these branches of the Nature Discovery program, as the youth often find it easier to connect with this age group. This opportunity is wonderful for those who are interested in education, biology, sustainability, or environmental studies.*

Pawster is looking for volunteers to help transport pets and supplies! Pet Chauffeurs are volunteer drivers who bring pets to their foster homes, to veterinary appointments, and anywhere else a pet may need! They also help bring supplies to fosters. You make Pawster's mission possible.

All you need is a valid driver's license, a vehicle, and a love of pets. Once you sign up and complete orientation, you'll be on the Pet Chauffeur list. When a pet or supplues needs to be transported, we'll send the request to pet chauffeurs. If you're available to help, great! If not, just wait on the next one!

Are you interested in helping Metro Animal Care and Control (MACC) and engaging in your community in an active and hands-on environment?  Are you looking for a short-term volunteer opportunity?  Do you enjoy talking directly to members of your community?  Join the MACC Street Team!  We are looking for a diverse group of team members who can walk, drive, bike, roller skate, hop, etc…to various locations throughout Davidson County to hang flyers and talk with local community members about upcoming shelter events, found animals, rabies/microchip clinics, long-stay shelter dogs, and more!  Help us advocate for MACC shelter animals and help manage community business bulletin boards, local business contacts, and organizations where flyers can be placed.  This is a great way to get a few volunteer hours in and help spread the mission of MACC throughout Davidson County.  Please consider joining us if you like the following; scavenger hunts, walking, driving, or biking to new establishments, talking with local organizations and business owners, love organization, and like to collaborate with a team of dedicated volunteers!  Interested volunteers must complete the MACC Volunteer Application and complete a virtual volunteer orientation.  Volunteers will receive 10 minutes of service credit for each flyer they put up.

We help clients connect to the right person in the right organization fort heir immediate
need, whether it’s housing, immigration, healthcare, job help, or more. We are trusted
connectors to resources, people and, programs. Ideally, but NOT required a resource navigator speaks- Spanish or Arabic to best communicate with many of our neighbors.

How It Works
As a volunteer resource navigator, you will be part of the Comprehensive Care program
at The Branch. You will:
Schedule volunteer shifts with Ashley Smith. The commitment is a minimum of 8
hours a month (that’s either two full volunteer shifts from 10-2 or four, half-time
shifts from either10-Noon or Noon-2)for at least 3 months.
Attend a training during your first navigator session. You’ll learn about the resources
available to clients, the tools we use to help our clients, and the process to follow
when a neighbor comes to the pantry and has needs beyond food.
You will be at the front desk during food pantry hours. You will talk to clients as they
come into The Branch to fill out paperwork; you’ll go out to their cars to see if they
need help navigating to other resources.
Document all referrals you’ve provided clients (this will be part of the training) on the
same day of your volunteer shift.
At the end of your 3-month commitment, meet with Ashley to discuss your
experience and if you would like to continue for another 3 months, or to take a break
for the next 3 months and then come back for another 3 months.

Weekly Rehearsal 

Students assisted with Department organization and development. 

Students participated in a voting simulation at Hermitage Elm. They created voting booths, discussed the importance of civic duty, created marketing material and more. 

The Tiger Pantry is designed to aid TSU students who are facing temporary hardships. This service is provided for students who are currently not on the meal plan.

WFSK serves the needs of both Fisk University and the Nashville community at-large. JAZZY 88 is on the front line at Fisk, therefore we receive numerous calls and listener contacts during the course of a day.  We're seeking the following type of person: Energetic, to learn, patient and hardworking.  Able to multi-task (i.e. in where ever needed. 

The GiGi's Playhouse 1:1 Literacy Tutoring Programs uses a methodology with documented success based on research by professionals in the field. The ability to read opens doors for individuals with Down syndrome in the workplace, schools and the community.  Developing reading skills also leads to improvements in speech and language development, auditory perceptual skills and working memory function.  Our goal is to foster a love for reading and provide an opportunity to develop and master skills, all while building a positive relationship with our volunteer tutors.  

We have various free therapeutic-based programs based on the different ages of our participants. 

Some Example of Programs That We Provide:

Fantastic Friends: (18+) The Fantastic Friends Adult Program meets weekly to provide opportunities for socialization and community involvement, while creating a fun and memorable experience for its participants. Participants work on vocational, communication, and social skills to boost confidence and encourage independence. 

Yoga: Teens and Adults (13+) and Yoga: Kids (8-12): This program promotes healthy habits for a lifetime of wellness through a proactive and routine that integrates physical, mental, and emotional development. This program helps participants develop personal awareness and learn specific strategies to maintain focus and manage emotions and impulses. 

LMNOP: Language, Music, N' Our Peeps (0-3): This program is an interactive and engaging program for young children with Down syndrome and their families. It guides parents and children through learning basic sign language and other forms of communication using music and language-based activities. 

Teentastic (13-18): Focuses on building social skills with friends without Down syndrome by participating in team-based activities in a casual and fun setting. Skill development includes understanding compromise, turn-taking and problem-solving abilities.

GiGi's Kitchen (all age groups): Our GiGi’s Kitchen programs are designed to emphasize the importance of a healthy lifestyle and early exposure to practical cooking skills. Under the guidance of program leaders, participants will engage in activities designed to promote healthy eating habits, kitchen safety awareness, food preparation skills, self-confidence, and social skills by applying learned skills as they prepare and enjoy a shared meal/snack!

Our programs operate Monday - Friday from 4:00-6:00pm. We look forward to working with you.

We are seeking committed, available volunteers to assist with:

FiftyForward has opportunities for volunteers to assist with a wide variety of programming for older adults enrolled in our FiftyForward Friends Adult Day Services Program.  Volunteers are needed to assist staff with bingo, arts and crafts, and karaoke. 

Volunteers help provide engagement and a sense of community for FiftyForward Friends clients. By bringing their own passions and interests to share in the Friends space, volunteers help clients to reconnect with their sense of self. 

Café is offered Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays from 8am - 10am. Our café program is designed to be a space for our participants to relax, enjoy a cup (or three!) of coffee, and some light breakfast items (think of what you may find at your favorite coffee shop!). We are always looking for volunteers that are eager to serve others, hear stories from those in the chaos, and to help us provide a place of rest for those using our programming.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic. Hands On has prioritized ways for volunteers to give of their time while remote. Through our Virtual Volunteerism page, we curate an updated list of virtual volunteer opportunities. These include orientations, social media internships, tutoring opportunities, and more.

Our Café Program happens each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. We are looking for singer/songwriters to come perform during the duration of our program. Our current musicians plan a set between 60 - 90 minutes of originals and covers. We ask that musicians arrive no later than 8:15am so that they can set up appropriately and we close our program by 10am.

We do provide a keyboard, mics, and plug ins for guitars. Please reach out to schedule dates.

Here at Room In The Inn, we provide over 225 meals a day. We are always in need of volunteers Monday - Friday from 11am - 1pm to help us provide the best lunch service possible. Our lunch program is a great way to engage with those experiencing homelessness while giving back to our community.

Nations Ministry Center is a local nonprofit that helps refugee families become generationally self-sufficient through a variety of services, including immigration assistance and educational programming. Located in Southeast Nashville, Nations Ministry Center works directly with families in the heart of some of the city's most culturally diverse neighborhoods.  

Nations Academy, a literacy tutoring initiative of Nations Ministry Center, helps refugee children close the literacy gap through targeted language development and homework assistance in a safe and supportive environment using Nashville's Vision for Holistic Youth Development to cultivate growth mindsets, connect social and emotional skills, and grow cognitive skills.

Volunteers are needed to assist refugee youth in the classroom with literacy practice, homework help, and community building. Materials are provided. We'll orient and prepare you for your role. You simply need to show up ready to encourage youth! Scheduled opportunities are available Mondays through Thursdays 3:15-6:15 (elementary classrooms) and 4:00-6:00 (middle school classrooms).

Keep in mind this is not a drop-in opportunity. Volunteers build friendships by volunteering on a consistent, once a week basis and must be scheduled to serve. The best fits for this role are:

Volunteer opportunities are available to high schoolers, college students, and adults. Required service verification is available, as well as internship opportunities. Participants 18 or over must pass a required background check before serving. All volunteers will participate in an orientation process prior to serving, and should have compassion for the refugee journey and the obstacles faced by English-language learners.

Needing A FEW friendly outgoing people to greet people in the hospital and help them find their way to their destination, and possibly push a wheelchair to clinics on the first floor. 

This is consistent volunteer opportunity. Would like to have someone who is willing to come and volunteer weekly. The opportunities are Monday through Friday. You can volunteer for one shift a week. Time slots are below:

Lunch buddies are mentors who come eat lunch and spend time once a week with one of our scholars during their lunch periods on Monday - Friday.  You will visit with your “Buddy” during lunch and read, do crafts, play games, and ultimately form a positive relationship.  Consistency, positivity, and fun are what make a great lunch buddy! 

This is a weekly or biweekly commitment.  You can come ANY day of the week, as long as it’s during your Buddy’s assigned lunch period.

Get Involved with the Tennessee PanCAN (Pancreatic Cancer Action Network) throughout the year! 

Whether you are looking to be involved year round in a key volunteer role or assist at various community events, there's something for everyone! You will be a part of a large group of dedicated volunteers from across the country committed to taking action, demanding better and advocating for pancreatic cancer patients/their families. 

Throughout the year the Tennessee Affiliate is looking for volunteers that want to help increase visibility about the world's toughest cancer - pancreas. Some items might consist of: 

- Recruiting Volunteers for PanCAN PurpleStride Tennessee 

- Making phone calls to previous PurpleStride participants

Transportation is a challenge for many seniors in Nashville and providing a ride is a meaningful way to help our older neighbors get where they need to go. Senior Ride Nashville keeps older adults connected to their community by providing affordable and assisted transportation for our riders. We are looking for caring, reliable volunteer drivers to provide transportation to medical appointments, grocery stores, beauty/barber shops, community centers and more! Your time can make a big difference in the lives of older adults in Nashville.

SRN drivers use their own vehicles and select rides based on their availability, location, and interest using an online scheduling tool. Volunteer drivers must complete an orientation and a background and motor vehicle record check before driving responsibilities begin. Records are checked on a recurring basis.

Our Friday Night Services (see events) for the formerly homeless men in our program appreciate when guest speakers come to share with them.

Join the Healing Arts Project Inc. HAPI by supporting our Marketing and Social Media efforts. If you have a passion for writing, taking photos, social media, telling stories, and helping spread awareness, then we are looking for you.  This position could be in person or remote. The hours are flexible as well, but the Site Supervisor is only available between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday.  We prefer someone to do at least 3 hours a week but would welcome more. 

We are in need of student interns to help in our main office. Work includes social media content creation, administrative assistance such as preparing mailers and official letters, preparing for our annual pow wow, and working on grant projects.

Volunteers from the local community gather at DPC every Saturday from 8:30am – 10:30am to serve a free sit-down meal, distribute essentials, and offer a space of respite to those in need within our community.  We are always excited to welcome additional volunteers – bring a friend, your family, co-workers, or small group! 

Complimentary parking is provided in the SP+ garage on 4th Ave. Consider serving just 1 Saturday each quarter, or perhaps even once a month.

Become a volunteer reading tutor with the YMCA today! Y-Literacy provides free one-on-one tutoring to students grades K-5 who are assessed as reading below grade-level. Our volunteers undergo a straightforward training process to ensure they are comfortable before beginning-- All it takes is a willing heart and a smiling face!

At this time all tutoring is conducted VIRTUALLY! No need to worry about your commute, parking, or Nashville traffic.

Volunteers commit to working with their student once per week for 1 hour. Volunteer opportunities are available Monday-Thursday starting between 3-7pm. Volunteers are paired with a student based on compatible availability.

Nashville CARES is in need of CARE Team volunteers to assist clients with practical aspects of daily living. For anyone living with, or at risk for, HIV/AIDS, Nashville CARES is the premier HIV/AIDS agency in the region. We provide comprehensive education, a broad range of targeted services and effective advocacy, all in a highly personal, confidential and compassionate manner.
 
Many of our clients who are elderly, medically fragile, and/or homebound need of your help! Volunteers are needed for any of the following:

You will be matched to one client, so that you are able to build a relationship with them, and they can feel supported by their community. And we cater to your schedule: whether you can only help once a month during the evenings, or every week on Saturday, we can match you with the right client. 
 
The CARE Team volunteer role requires you to fill out an application, attend an orientation and pass a background check. We look forward to you helping us end the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Middle Tennessee.

Do you enjoy spending time with others?

Elderly or disabled clients can greatly benefit from a volunteer visiting in the capacity of a friendly neighbor providing socialization and much needed contact to the outside world, combating isolation and loneliness. Often those needs are not met by traditional programs, so volunteers can step in and close this crucial gap in services. 

Depending on the client's needs, volunteers in this role will just spend time with the client talking, reading or assist with getting the mail and reading it to the client or helping them understand the contents. Some clients may need a hand with simple household tasks such as switching a light bulb or vacuuming. Volunteers and clients could also partake in doing simple art projects together, if desired. 

Volunteers will be paired with a client in their area and volunteer and client will agree on the specifics of the volunteer's role prior to any visits. Volunteers should be willing to commit to a minimum of one visit per month for this opportunity.

We serve immigrants from many countries and have ongoing language assistance needs (especially Spanish and Arabic) to help greet people in multiple languages, to work with staff and neighbors on identifying short-term and long-term needs, and in helping interpret at workshops for the community. We require a 1-hour orientation and training via Zoom.

Hands On Nashville (HON) is looking for college-aged Community Engagement and Volunteer Leaders to be a part of a cohort serving across the Nashville metro area with local nonprofits to meet community needs through outreach and volunteerism. This position is part of a paid yearlong, part-time (900 hours) AmeriCorps service program, where members are matched with area nonprofits to help them enlist volunteers and engage community members in their work.

The Community Engagement and Volunteer Leader will develop outreach skills through training and active service in the community through a partnership between Hands On Nashville and area nonprofit organizations. Members will gain marketable experience and grow their professional networks while making a meaningful difference in their communities

Job Responsibilities * 

Community Outreach and Volunteer Leaders will serve at local nonprofits to recruit and engage a wide variety of volunteers to bolster the work of Hands On Nashville's community partners. Leaders will build relationships with volunteers to improve recruitment and retention and inspire a lifelong commitment of service.

HON is looking for enthusiastic members with an interest in volunteerism to build strategic relationships with schools, civic organizations, and neighborhood groups. Ideal candidates are dedicated to community work and looking to grow their skills. Leaders will help foster community engagement; therefore, they must be confident taking initiative, enjoy working with people, have strong interpersonal and customer-service skills, and be comfortable with public speaking. Proficiency in a second language, involvement in local community organizations or grassroots initiatives, and attending an MNPS or Nashville-area charter school are a plus.

Potential volunteers must attend two Zoom trainings (first an orientation training, then a Burlington English training) led by NALC staff before being matched with a learner. Training is provided via Zoom only: in-person training is not currently available.

Habitat for Humanity needs volunteers to work at one of their ReStore locations on Tuesdays through Saturdays. During a shift, volunteers will help with merchandising, accepting donations, etc. Volunteers are asked to work on an as-needed basis, and shifts may last anywhere from two to eight hours.
