The Refugee Youth Program is a therapeutic afterschool program for refugee, asylee, and migrant children, that have experienced complex trauma. The purpose of the program is to mitigate the impact of complex trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences and to provide academic support and enrichment to children whose education has been interrupted by violence, poverty, oppression, and discrimination. To achieve these goals, the program provides academic enrichment using the KidzLit and KidzMath curricula, and trauma-informed arts, recreation, and enrichment opportunities.
Volunteer Responsibilities
- Assist the Refugee Youth Program by providing direct services to Refugee Youth Program participants in afterschool programs for children
- Implement activities for refugee youth in the afterschool program such as facilitating completion of homework assignments, engaging in recreational activities, etc.
- Monitor youth’s successes and struggles, helping them to problem-solve when appropriate
