Standard Procedures:
- Greet visitors and guests warmly as they enter the gallery, answering any questions they may ask.
- Answer the phones: "Good ___, Carl Van Vechten Art Gallery, this is _______ speaking. How may I help you."
- Please be sure that lights to both galleries are turned on when you arrive. Each volunteer should take turns and walk around the gallery spaces at least twice during your shift—once each hour.
- Please ask visitors to leave large bags, backpacks, umbrellas at the front desk while they tour the gallery.
- If visitors are drawing, they are to use pencils only and not pens, markers or sharpies.
Requirements:
- You are required to have basic knowledge of the history of the gallery and arts at Fisk University, and the exhibitions currently installed. The folder with information is on the front desk.
- Dress Code for Special events (evening and Sunday): Business Casual
- Dress Code Monday through Friday: Fisk Gear, Business Casual, Refrain from derogatory dress, revealing clothes, bonnets or hats(hoodies should not cover your head).
- Headphones Policy: Please remove headphones and earbuds while you are in the gallery.
- Restrooms are located downstairs directly in front of the downstairs entrance.
The gallery is an important space on campus, and a cultural institution that represents the storied history of the university. You are ultimately representing Fisk University and its legacy when you volunteer at the gallery.
